the big black bear

I had an interesting dream the other night.  Somehow, a big black bear started following me around, the way a dog would. It just kind of appeared. In the dream I referred to it as a polar bear, but it was not, it was a black bear.  It was like a dog, trying to attach itself to me and make me take care of it.

I was very aware that it was not in the right place, that there should not be a bear in my life and that I did not want or need a big black bear following me around. And even though it was friendly, and would lick people's faces and try to groom their hair, I knew that because it was a bear it could potentially be unpredictable and dangerous.  I wanted to get rid of it, but I knew that if I called Animal Control they would just automatically kill it (the way they did with a mountain lion that was in my neighborhood recently), which I thought was wrong.

Wanting to keep it happy, I fed the bear a steak, which had been intended for my husband and me to eat.  I wondered, what could I do to make it go away?

The dream then shifted to another topic, the way that dreams do, so this issue with the bear was left unresolved.  When I woke up I tried to think about what this bear could represent, and it seems to me that it represents my fibroids.  Something burdensome and potentially dangerous, interfering with other plans that my husband and I have, but don't know how to get rid of it other than something drastic and violent (surgery).

Interesting insight, although I'm not sure what to do with it.  Any suggestions?

You can look up dream symbols in a dream dictionary. It is funny: a bear represents independence and strength as well as other stuff. Steak represents instincts. Maybe: In your dream your independence 'licks and grooms' other people, but you realize it can be dangerous for you to be so independent and always care for others even though it is your instinctive nature.
