Ran across this rather iffy-looking site. Impossible to tell who the contributors are. But this description of what causes fibroids sounded intuitively on target to me. I certainly had all these things going on during the time my fibroids developed and grew!
Fibroids are a response to very high levels of stress. They come about when you have very little progesterone. You see, if a woman is extremely stressed out, mother nature will sense this, and prevent you from having any babies by cutting off the progesterone. If this carries on, you will develop a fibroid.
Lack of sleep, drinking alcohol, and bad relationships are the main culprits for uterine fibroids.

I believe this is true. I developed a fibroid during a time when my former boyfriend was cheating on me. I also was going through a job change. I was drinking a lot, and stress was keeping me up all night, sometimes for nights on end.
