update

We did an egg retrieval last week. I was delighted that I produced the same number of eggs as in June, six. However, it turned out that one was immature, so we had 5 good ones of which four fertilized. So one less embryo than the 5 that we froze in the June retrieval. Right now they are growing in the petri dish, please send them good thoughts for good growth and development.

Meanwhile, my husband's sperm got even worse -- from 23% motile in June to only 15% this time. He also produced a lot less. Not surprising given the dismal results of the hair analysis reported in my earlier post. My theory is 1) stirring up all the heavy metals in his system through the detox made them more likely to interfere with the zinc absorption, and 2) the detox, especially since he did not get enough support for it, was a stress on his system that weakened his energies.

Also, I did get him to go in for acupuncture the day before he had to give the sample, and the acupuncturist said he was "damp" in Chinese medicine terms. Not surprising since lately he has been snacking on ice cream and cookies. Which of course not only make you damp (which can be bad for sperm, see here and here) but also sugar, dairy, and wheat are the three things that are always on the list of do-not-eat when you are trying to detox. So his poor snacking habits (undermining the healthy food I so carefully cook for him) I think are hurting his body's ability to get rid of the heavy metals. And his lack of interest in learning about the science of all these things really drives me nuts (as well as the idea that my precious few eggs might be getting crappy sperm in them).

I got very angry at him yesterday and said no more junk, he has to choose more healthy snacks, and also issued an ultimatum that he has to choose a doctor to work with and make an appointment by the end of the day Monday.

I just want to thank you for such a wonderful blog. In case you didn't think anyone was reading, i just wanted you to know that someone is.

I came across your website today and am so happy that there is someone talking about a condition that affects so many women.

I was recently told that i have fibroids and i have been crying ever since. I have three big fibroids to be exact and i really wouldn't care too much if this had happened to me say ten years or so from now. I am still a relatively young person(i am 29) and i have not had any kids. it kills me that my fertility may be compromised because of these things.. I haven't given up hope though... Unfortunately, i wasn't wise a few months ago and agreed to have surgery. The doctors shot me up with lupron, but i have not had the surgery yet. I don't want to have the surgery even though i am presently in a menopausal state because of the lupron. I know that ideally i should just have the surgery, but i do not see the point. I would love to shrink my fibroids naturally, but i don't know where to begin. I was wondering though..have you managed to shrink yours?

Also, is there a better way to contact you? Do you have an email address?

Thanks again for a wonderful site and i will continue to visit this wonderful site.

P.S: Sorry for all the rambling-i am so emotional, which i have learned is bad for women with fibroids.

I hope your husband comes around. Men can be so annoying at times-lol

Hi Anonymous
Thanks so much for your note and I'm sorry to hear about your fibroids.
It's your decision about whether to have surgery or not. Surgery is certainly the quickest and most direct way to get rid of them. I don't know how big is big, but the bigger they are the harder they are to shrink even with heavy duty Chinese herbs. It also depends a lot on what your fertility timetable is -- are you married? Dating? That will partially determine whether it makes sense for you to try natural shrinking first.
Even if you do have the surgery, it's good to learn about natural methods to fight fibroids to help make sure they don't come back.
Unfortunately I have not seen any shrinkage from my efforts. I very much wish I had more and better information when I was first diagnosed. There are many people who have shrunk their fibroids through natural means, but it requires a lot of dedication and patience.
I would suggest that you find an acupuncturist who has been certified by ABORM as they are the best qualified to help with fertility-related topics. http://www.aborm.org/
Please do also do some more reading in this site for other ideas.
About my email, I thought about your request carefully and I'm not able to accept private email at this time due to my other commitments.
